Testing plaster with Building Trust International

Con l'aiuto e i consigli di David Cole di Building Trust International abbiamo testato un'altra combinazione per l'intonaco naturale.

Abbiamo sciolto la tapioca in acqua bollita, aggiunto dell'ossido di ferro come colorante e miscelato il composto con argilla e sabbia.

With the help and suggestions of David Cole from Building Trust International we tested another natural plaster. 

We mixed tapioca with boiled water, sand, clay and we added iron oxide as a red pigment.

Bamboo beam

Per realizzare le travi di bambù che sorreggeranno la copertura bisogna assicurarsi che i culmi siano esattamente uno sopra l'altro, utilizzare delle corde per tenerli uniti ed evitare che possano muoversi e praticare dei fori per le barre filettate. Il foro deve essere diagonale all'estremità della trave e perpendicolare al centro.
Le nostre travi sono lunghe più di 12 m. E' stato quindi necessario unire tra loro due culmi inserendo nel punto di giuntura un bambù di diametro inferiore, forare entrambi i pezzi ed inserire dei pioli che  assicurino la perfetta unione dei pezzi.

To make the bamboo beams that will support the roof is necessary to set the poles into the rack, check that the poles are exactly on top of one another, use ratchet straps to press the poles together, hold them togehter while you strap to avoid them from moving. Then drill holes for the  steel bar. The steel bar in the ends of the beams should be diagonal and the middle one should be perpendicular to the poles.
Our beams are longer than 12 m. So it was therefore necessary to connect together two poles by inserting at the junction a bamboo with a smaller diameter, drill both pieces and insert the pins that ensure the perfect union of the pieces. 
 

Il blocco servizi che ospita il magazzino e i bagni è quasi completato. I buchi lasciati nella muratura permettono alla luce di filtrare all'interno e favoriscono la ventilazione naturale degli spazi.

The services block made up by the warehouse and the bathrooms is almost completed. The holes left in the wall allow light to filter into and promote the natural ventilation of the spaces.

Testing natural plaster

Abbiamo testato differenti combinazioni per trovare il miglior intonaco naturale. La prima composta da terra, sabbia cemento e acqua ha provocato la formazione di crepe nell'intonaco, così come quella formata da solo sabbia e terra. Il miglior intonaco, per ora, è composto da argilla, sabbia paglia e tapioca.

We tested different mix to create the best natural plaster. The first one, made by soil sand cement and water,  started to crack like the one made by only sand, soil and water.

The best, for the moment, is made by clay sand straw and tapioca.

The works go on

Vi mostriamo alcune foto del villaggio da cui è iniziato il lavoro dell'associazione con cui stiamo collaborando, Missione Possibile Onlus.

Questo villaggio è nato in una discarica all'interno della città di Phnom Penh. Le persone qui vivono raccogliendo e differenziando i rifiuti.

Here are some photos of the village from which began the work of the association with whom we are working, Mission Possibile Onlus. This village was born in a garbage dump within the city of Phnom Penh. The people here are living by collecting waste.

 

In cantiere sono arrivate le finestre in legno prodotte artigianalmente dal falegname e i nostri operai le stanno posando.
